Shenzhen Dapeng Eastern International Tourism Zone
Located in Shenzhen’s scenic Dapeng Peninsula, Shenzhen Dapeng Eastern International Tourism Zone is envisioned as a world-class eco-tourism destination that integrates nature, culture and recreation. Spanning 240sqkm (60sqkm core area with 21sqkm land area and 39sqkm sea area), the area is positioned at the crossroads of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Huizhou as a key coastal gateway within the Greater Bay Area and is Shenzhen’s only tourism-focused district among its 21 Key Development Areas. Set within an ecologically sensitive environment, the master plan is guided by four principles: Ecological Resilience, Sustainable Development, Integrated Urbanism and Community Inclusion. The scheme creates a sustainable balance between environmental protection and visitor experiences by prioritising coastal restoration, biodiversity conservation and low-impact development.
Defined by the country’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, the master plan connects coastal and inland destinations with an integrated network of recreational and ecological corridors, while the 18km Green Ridge Corridor and Active Bayfront Promenade align with Shenzhen’s ‘Mountain and Seas Connector Plan’ to further establish connectivity. A ‘4+1’ thematic development framework underpins the tourism strategy, featuring flagship projects and themed clusters with highlights such as the LEGOLAND Resort, the cultural heritage-focused Pengcheng Cultural Zone, eco-adventure destinations, world-class leisure attractions and vibrant aquatic sports facilities. With Dapeng recognised as China’s first International Dark Sky Community and a Cittaslow destination, the master plan foregrounds sustainable tourism development to create a resilient and distinctive environment for ecological conservation, cultural heritage and economic vitality.
